Join artist and author Jodi Ohl for a week of creative exploration in the stunning coastal village of Mulranny, Ireland—a location as unique and inspiring as the work you’ll create.

Located along the Wild Atlantic Way in County Mayo, Mulranny offers sweeping seaviews, winding coastal trails, and an atmosphere that naturally encourages reflection and creativity. It’s no surprise that this serene corner of Ireland continues to draw artists from around the world. The nearby landscape—both rugged and peaceful—creates the perfect backdrop for reconnecting with your creative purpose.

This will be Jodi’s second time leading a retreat at the Essence of Mulranny studio, and she’s excited to return to this special place.

Last time, a local host described the land as sacred—and standing at the edge of Europe, it’s easy to feel the truth in those words. It’s a setting that doesn’t just inspire; it shifts your perspective and reminds you why you create in the first place.

During the retreat, you’ll work with acrylics and mixed media to develop abstract and semi-abstract paintings, using your surroundings and experiences as inspiration. The goal is to push your creative boundaries while becoming a more intentional version of your artistic self.

What to Expect:

  • Begin the week by creating a simple journal—your place to experiment with mark-making and collage in a relaxed, playful way.

  • Use materials and techniques from your journal to develop layered collage elements for your larger projects.

  • Explore line, shape, and color through abstract “sketches” inspired by your travels and the views right outside the studio.

  • Create expressive paintings that capture what it feels like to be “on the edge and back”—a mix of reflection, exploration, and bold creative choices.

  • Engage in thoughtful discussions about how your story and motivations show up in your work, and how to strengthen your creative voice.

Beyond the studio, the experience includes delicious group meals, time to connect with fellow artists, a visit to a local exhibit, and an unforgettable trip to another part of the western Irish coast. There will also be free time to explore the shops and local culture around County Mayo.

Space is limited, and this unique opportunity is expected to fill quickly. If you’re ready to invest in your creativity and explore a place that has sparked artistic breakthroughs for others, we encourage you to reserve your spot as soon as possible.

Escape to Mulranny—and return with a clearer, more confident creative voice.
