Following up on our Paper discussion, here is a little video from the Fine Art store Paper dept: https://vimeo.com/537674102 (Warning: this may also be addictive! I simply adore that Chinese paper..)

Also if you are joining us from Australia, I want to mention Mirella from https://waxyartsupplies.com.au. Mo Godbeer has encaustic medium, hake brushes, gas torches, mark making tools etc and you will find her on FB and her website www.mogodbeer.com

Today I want to mention mixing your own colours with oil paint. Please note, it will always be best to buy professionally made colours, especially white and black but this works if you cannot obtain easily.

How to Mix Your Encaustic Wax Colours

To obtain a muffin-sized cake of each color:

  1. If your oil paint looks quite oily, remove the excess of oil by extending approximately 10 cm of oil paint directly as it comes from the tube on blotting paper or watercolor paper and let it sit there for approximately a day.

  2. Place your oil paint in the bottom of a muffin sized tin that is big enough to melt your medium in too. And add a muffin sized encaustic medium cake, put the tin on your heat palette

  3. With a wooden stick, stir constantly to get a smooth and uniform mixture.

  4. Pour the mixture in a mould and let it cool.

  5. That’s it!
